According to Harper, getting a Georgetown education gives graduates the tools to initiate positive change. "We need leaders in every profession, every industry, every facet of our society who will stand up to anything that undermines social justice," he said.

Harper added that the beginning is not the end, but a continuation of the effort to gain more knowledge: "Keep going, even if the challenge seems insurmountable or scary." Along with taking advantage of every learning opportunity, he emphasized the importance of pushing forward regardless of the obstacles.
Georgetown University President John J. As DiGioia graduated the graduates, he continued Harper's message in his closing remarks. He congratulated the graduates not only for their hard work and dedication but also for their mutual care and compassion during the pandemic.

"Your class will be remembered for the responsibility you took for each other and everyone around you," DiGioia said.
DiGioia noted that the culmination of this academic journey led graduates to find a path to becoming their most authentic selves. He described the constant search for knowledge as a profound and transformative experience that has the power to create a brighter future. "When we look for the best in others, we find the best in ourselves," he said.

Although the Hilltop was a scene of joy and celebration, not all graduates were able to attend the commencement ceremony. Despite prior duties, some were able to celebrate from afar.

Such was the case of Army Captain Moriamo Suleiman-Ifelodun who graduated from the Master of Professional Studies program in Public Relations and Corporate Communication and deployed to Romania in February 2022.

Suleiman-Ifelodun is a public affairs officer attached to Romania's 5th Mobile Public Affairs Task Force. Before the deployment, she knew that she would not be able to return to Bakketoppen to finish the exam.
He described the feeling of graduating from afar as bittersweet. Although there were many academic achievements and supporters, crossing the stage was not an individual achievement. Sulaimani-Ifelodun said her academic journey between an epidemic and deployment showed her tremendous resourcefulness and determination.

Suleiman-Ifelodun is excited to continue to lead his fellow soldiers in public affairs.

As the world continues to find solutions to the pandemic, even through distance and lockdowns, it became clear that the need to create a better future within the Class of 2022 remained. Moving forward even in unpredictable situations can open doors to success and knowledge.
