Wake County Year Round Calendar 2023 – Whenever I mention this statement to people who don't live in my area, I always get weird looks and lots of questions.

School all year round? As always? Do they ever get a day off? Don't your kids hate it? Why in the world would you want to do this?

Our region is a wonderful place to live, and our state's towns are consistently ranked among the top 10 places to live in the United States. As a result, population increases in this area.

With more residents comes more kids, so 20 years ago, our school district began year-round school choice at some elementary and middle schools to reduce overcrowding. (All high schools are on the traditional calendar and are in the summer.)

Basically, the school population is divided into four different groups: Track 1, Track 2, Track 3 and Track 4.

At any given time in the school calendar throughout the year, only three of the four tracks are in session at school, while the other track is on break.

The school year program is designed so that children stay in class for 9 weeks and then have a 3 week break. We have the same breaks as traditional schools that are spread throughout the year.

For example, track the school year for all schools that start after July 4th, but only tracks 1, 2, and 3 that start school that day. After three weeks, Track 3 will have a break and Track 4 will start school.

Track 1 is red, track 2 is blue, track 3 is yellow and track 4 is green. Orange is a day off for all students and gray represents the weekend. White days of rest for railroads on that line.

By following this school calendar year, our school system will be able to educate 1/3 more students in the buildings and facilities we already have.

With a year-round school calendar, our school system can take a building that holds only 900 students and use it to teach 100,200 students. This will reduce the congestion that plagues many school systems.

I remember thinking it was crazy the first time I saw it, but when I understood how this calendar was calculated, it became very clear.

Once assigned a track, the student will remain on that list every year for the entirety of their education at that school, unless the parent requests a change. All brothers are given the same path.

We are in Track 2, which was a single class track at our elementary school. That means only one teacher in each class. So my kids were in the 20 to 24 kid class for years.

Retention between grades is great, and our three-week retreats usually come when my kids are fresh or a little overwhelmed.

Most of my kids go to classes in June, July, and August, which are usually hot in North Carolina.

I am often asked if my kids get to have a "summer." I can guarantee they will. We pack lots of fun things to do during their break during the summer months.

We spend many days at the pool and do many other activities during the summer. They all participate in swim teams at the local YMCA.

They held Bible schools at local churches during their evening vacations and went to summer camps in their free time. They have all the characteristics of "summer".

But we get a terrible winter, spring and fall! My kids usually enjoy a winter day without going to school.

We hang out in cool places when it's packed with people because everyone is at school. We enjoy our free time in all four seasons instead of just one.

Our friends have attended cooking camps, horse riding camps, farm camps, museum camps, and even computer coding camps at various locations in the area. If you can imagine it, you can find it here.

I also get a lot of questions about what the teacher's school year is like. For grade school teachers, the teacher stays with their students for the entire school year and follows the same calendar with equal breaks for the entire school year.

Depending on how many children are enrolled in each school, teachers sometimes have to organize their classes during the holidays and start the next nine-week program in a different class.

Special subject teachers (art, music, P.E., etc.) and school staff (principals, counselors, office staff, etc.) are usually 12-month employees.

Because these teachers work more days than their calendars allow, these positions are often assigned more than one term in the school calendar.

Like any 12-month employee involved in extracurricular activities, they will receive time off. They only arrange for a substitute to cover the classes in their absence.

Bottom line, we need year-round school. I never imagined it this way before my kids were born, but it works so well for us and I would enroll my kids in a heartbeat all year long!

Bee Day At Wake Forest Farmers' Market August 20

School sports in our community are only available to children in 7th grade and above. Band classes are offered starting in 6th grade. They still operate on the same schedule as traditional calendar schools. Children participating in these activities are supervised but expected to participate in sports/plays/activities. Since high schools operate only on the traditional calendar, this is not relevant to them.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Weekends are like a traditional school. Sometimes, if the weather turns bad and they want to take a day off, they have a half day of school on Saturday. But over the years, this same election has become less important to Saturday School.

Thanks for this great work! I am new to the world this whole year. Do you know which track gets the most requests? Is the county flexible in accepting interest requests? Track 4 is the most popular as it is closest to the traditional calendar. You can ask which track you want, but it's not always busy.
