CANYON, Texas – New data released today by West Texas A&M University showed year-over-year growth in key student enrollment metrics.

The freshman class grew by nearly 3% and the sophomore class by nearly 9% in the spring of 2022, continuing the trend seen in last year's class. These gains helped increase WT's overall illiteracy rate.

The number of full-time graduate and full-time graduate students increased by more than 4% per year.
WT holds more than 90% of new departures in the fall of 2022, up about 4% from the previous hold rate.
"Our undergraduate enrollments are starting to recover from the pandemic that hit the country. "Adding new students is just as important as WT, and what's exciting is that enrolled students are doing well," said Mike Knox, vice president of enrollment management. The trend continues as of spring 2022: enrollments in the WT doctoral program are increasing by almost 7% compared to last year.

The number of Hispanic students has increased by about 1% and now represents about 30% of the total student population.
WT has qualified as a Hispanic serving organization since 2016. To qualify, full-time Hispanic institutions must have at least 25% of the undergraduate population.
The number of transfers from junior colleges increased by more than 8%. Since the outbreak of the covid disease in 2020, that number has been decreasing.

A student graduating from or transferring to a BSN program that is not accepted is considered a pre-nursing course.
Wtamu Student Quartet To Perform At Carnegie Hall
When a student applies and is accepted into a BSN program and begins junior nursing training, the primary code changes to code 701, unless the student is a registered LVN, in which case the primary code changes to 713 (see below).
For students with a professional nursing license. Currently, the Department of Nursing does not offer LVN and BSN programs online. LVN students are recommended to follow a traditional BSN pre-license program offered on campus only.
