Wvu 2023 24 Calendar – Alumni and friends of West Virginia University made more than 5,000 gifts totaling $11.9 million on the university's fourth day of fundraising Wednesday (March 3), setting a new record for the university system's 24-hour online fundraising event. The final figure was $11.3 million and more than 4,000 gifts in 2019, the last time the event was held.

This year's theme, "Stronger Futures," reflects the critical importance of private support in moving the university forward – and ensuring students can continue their education – amid the economic challenges of the pandemic and cuts to public finances.

"Once again, our alumni and friends have shown an incredible commitment to West Virginia University, our health care system, and WVU Medicine Children's," President Gordon Gee said in a statement. "In these difficult times, their unwavering support is an important factor in helping future generations gain the same climbing experience and education they received."

Major gifts made on Charity Day include a $1.75 million gift from alumni Jim and Marcia Blair to WVU and WVU Potomac State College student scholarships. James G. Feller commitment of $1.7 million to the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources for Chemical Engineering Scholarships; and a gift of $1.27 million from William "Mick" Knowles Jr. To benefit the WVU Cancer Institute.
