The school welcomes new and returning students and their families on August 21 and 22, as the transition dates mark the start of summer and the new school year.

Binghamton University 2023 Calendar

Approximately 3,000 first-year students, 1,000 transfer students and 1,600 new students are expected to join the University this year. Classes for all of its approximately 18,600 students begin on Tuesday, August 24.

Received more than 47,870 applications this year, including 39,535 first-years, 3,887 transfers, and more than 4,450 graduate students applying to enroll in the fall of 2021.

"We are excited to start the semester and are happy that as of August 16, nearly 90% of current students have provided proof of vaccination or are exempt from medical or faith," President Harvey Stenger said. "We were able to reduce our number of cases of COVID-19, with only one positive case all summer."

Now, because of the increased concern about the Delta virus, everyone on campus, regardless of vaccination, must wear a mask indoors. This includes classrooms, corridors, libraries, spaces and offices, as well as buses and transportation. Masks are not required in private rooms or private offices when eating in school cafeterias or in private non-public offices. We will continue to evaluate the data and adjust the mask as necessary.

"As the school completes preparations for the fall semester, we will follow the advice of New York State and health officials," Stenger said. "Ensuring the health and safety of our school community is our top priority, so our plans have been developed in collaboration with teachers, workers and health professionals, including local and state health officials."

The University will continue to offer face-to-face classes, there are no plans to return to distance learning, and will continue to promote vaccinations for all members of the school. Vaccinated students must provide their proof of immunization to the student health website. Vaccinated employees are also asked to provide proof of vaccination to Human Resources.

When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves the vaccine against COVID-19, all students should be vaccinated on time.

"Vaccination is the best defense we have against the spread of COVID-19," said Provost Donald Nieman.
