Used in World War I and World War II as a way to store coal during wartime, it fell out of use after each war (except in Great Britain, where it was in continuous use from 1916). It was widely adopted in the 1970s due to the energy crisis.

When I assigned activities to this calendar, I intentionally chose activities that were accessible or inexpensive so that all families could participate. The instructions teach your kids to play with toys they probably own, rummage through the trash, and use inexpensive art materials like pencils and chalk.
If you look closely, you will see a pattern of daily activity. Sunday activities encourage arts and crafts. On Monday, your children will be involved in scientific activities. Tuesday is for physical activity! Every Wednesday I block my day off to go to the library. Joi encourages your children to do spatial awareness and engineering tasks. Your family will experience the pleasure of eating on Friday. Finally, Saturday wraps up the week with a fun family night.

I'm ready for summer. When school comes around, I'm ready and excited, but I need a break and I know the kids need it too. My favorite part of summer since I was a kid is sleeping in. I started making summer plans to spend time together a few years ago. I don't plan something every day because I feel like it should be a long time, but I use planning to spread fun things throughout the summer.
If you need some fun ideas, I've made a list (it's just an image – printable for better resolution). These are great remedies for boring rainy afternoons! Do you love rainy summer days as much as I do?

We also bought local amusement passes which gave us access to many places such as bowling alleys, trampoline parks and even a water park. I really am a homebody, so this was my way of making sure we had no excuse not to leave the house.
Always – I know you want another list. Heck, *I* want a bucket list, other than an exact copy of these 52 ideas, I love creating our own custom bucket list. I ask each of the children what they really want. Sometimes I find their entertainment ideas like "buy candy at the grocery store" funny… hahaha!!
For me, planning things on a calendar is a lot of fun. This calendar runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It's a great summer image! I printed this out and started planning with the kids last night. Did I mention I'm ready for summer to start?!

Okay, I'm not alone if part of me wishes my relatives didn't have concrete plans for this summer. The thought of not having a schedule challenges me.
