The house received a message from the official. This designation will remain in effect until the 118th Congress or until amended by the Clerk.
SPEAKER PRO TEMPORE – The Speaker appointed the Honorable Patrick McHenry, the Honorable Adrian Smith (NE), the Honorable Robert Wittman, the Honorable Andy Harris, the Honorable Richard Hudson, the Honorable John Joyce (PA) and the Honorable Guy Reschenthaler to to act as Speaker Pro Tempore for the signing of registered bills and joint resolutions by the end of the One Hundred and Eighteenth Congress.
House Of Representatives
The House received a message from the Honorable Kevin McCarthy. The Speaker appointed Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana to exercise all powers to impeach the House of Representatives under H. Con. Really. 1, clause 12 of Rule I and any concurrent resolutions of the present Congress providing for the appointment of members to exercise similar powers. In the event of the death or incapacity of such proxy, the substitutes named in the letter of that date to the Clerk shall be appointed for the same purposes.
The Chair announced that the Chair had served the Secretary with a letter dated January 7, 2023 listing the Members in the order in which they would act as interim speakers under Rule I, Rule 8(b)(3).

BOARD OF APPOINTMENT — Mr. Scalise proposed unanimous approval that during the One Hundred Eighteenth Congress the Speaker, Majority Leader, and Minority Leader be authorized to accept resignations and appointments authorized by Act or the House of Representatives. I agree without objection.
