The board voted 6-0-1 to approve the calendar, which will change Student Independence Day from October 31, 2017, to November 1, 2016. Staff were instructed to bring back parent conference dates and issues related to student attendance.

The school calendar is always important for parents. Changing the start and end of the school year was a hot topic last year. A calendar should never be added to a wish calendar. On page 27: Per diem faculty members are entitled to 10 days of paid leave per school year due to illness or injury.

On page 44: Unless otherwise agreed in writing between the district and the union, the union shall be entitled to 50 days leave for each school year, not exceeding five days for each member. Requests for time off must be made in advance and notified to the Assistant Director of Human Resources Services.
CUSD pays a teacher 50 days for union work and the district pays the teacher's stipend.
CUSD now spends more on professional development for teachers than on books and equipment, according to the latest ED data.
