1 Regulations for the acquisition of doctoral degrees at KU Leuven, including details for the Faculty of Social Sciences in advance 1. Preliminary provisions Article 1. Scope 1. This provision refers to the general requirements for obtaining a doctorate degree at KU Leuven. 2 Article 2 Concept The aim of the doctoral thesis and doctoral program at KU Leuven is to train researchers who can independently contribute to the development of scientific knowledge. Postdoctoral researchers are responsible for maintaining their own records and should keep themselves informed of all relevant matters reported by faculty, in particular the doctoral program and the Social Sciences Support Office. Subsection 2. Doctoral studies and doctoral committee Article 4. Doctoral studies Each executive board creates a doctoral school at the group level. The responsibilities of the doctoral school include: (1) attracting research talent, (2) organizing and assuring the quality of the doctoral program in partnership with doctoral committees (see subsection 5). (3) ensuring the effectiveness of doctoral studies, (4) concluding a partnership agreement in the context of joint and double degrees (see article 21), (5) monitoring the activities of the ombudsman (see article 22), (6) increasing the visibility and recognition of doctoral research at KU Leuven. The Faculty of Social Sciences promotes and provides support for doctoral research through the entire doctoral program and support for social research; the associate dean for research is the ex officio academic coordinator of this unit, assisted by an administrative coordinator. In consultation with the Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences and with the Doctoral Committee of the Faculty, the unit Doctoral Program and Research Support in the Field of Social Sciences assists in the implementation of the aforementioned competences in the Faculty of Social Sciences. He regularly reports to the doctoral committee of the faculty; at least once a year gives a report on his work to the Board of the Faculty and the Council of the Faculty.

4 Article 5 Doctoral Commission The Executive Board or Faculty Council convenes the Doctoral Commission at the level of each faculty. The doctoral committee consists of members of senior academic staff and representatives of doctoral researchers. Membership should represent different areas of research within the Faculty. Duties of the doctoral commission include: (1) approval of doctoral enrollment (see Art. 6 and Art. 8), (2) approval of student enrollment in doctoral studies, determination of the content and scope of preliminary training. doctoral examination and evaluation of whether the doctoral examination has been passed (see Article 7) the doctoral program has been successfully completed (see subsection 5), (6) approval of collaboration leading to the award of a joint or double degree (see Article 21), (7) taking into account the anonymous report of the ombudsman (see Article 22). The doctoral commission of the faculty consists of the deputy dean for scientific work (president), the administrative coordinator of the department of doctoral studies and support of social sciences (secretary), the coordinators of the research groups of the faculty and five representatives of doctoral students. Of the latter, four members belong to junior academic staff (AAP/BAP), with one representative appointed by doctoral students from each of the four sections of the Faculty (Anthropology, Communication, Political Science and Sociology). The fifth representative is an external doctoral student who is not a member of junior academic staff (AAP/BAP). The representatives are selected under the guidance of the existing doctoral committee on the initiative of each of the sections. They are elected for a two-year term with the possibility of a one-time extension. A representative of doctoral students who is applying for a second mandate cannot participate in the supervision of the doctoral commission for the election for which he is running. The doctoral committee regularly reviews and evaluates the activities of the doctoral program and social research support of the unit's faculty. In particular, the doctoral commission exercises control over the quality of the faculty's doctoral education (see section 5), both in general and in individual cases.

5 Doctoral committee meets at least five times during the academic year. In addition, the chairman convenes a doctoral committee whenever individual doctoral students or their supervisors express certain problems. In individual files, the doctoral commission may hear the involved supervisor and/or doctoral student; the supervisor and/or doctoral student may also request to be heard by the doctoral committee. The Doctoral Committee may carry out tasks assigned and assigned by the President.
